Madora Edith “Dorie” Riel, 80 of Vienna, W.Va. passed away Dec. 30, 2010, at St. Joseph's Hospital after an extended illness.She was born Feb. 6, 1930 in Cumberland, Md., a daughter of the late Franklin and Mary Ellen Boser Smallwood. Madora worked for 54 years cleaning homes and businesses while raising five children as a widowed mother. She was a hard worker and found joy in helping others. Her generosity was unsurpassed and although she never had much, she always provided for those in need. She resided at the Worthington Nursing Facility for most of the past year where she was a valued member of the Red Hat Club. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends and acquaintances.Madora is survived by her five children, Jim R. Riel and wife, Pam, of Morgantown, W.Va., Francis Elaine Honaker of Vienna, W.Va., Karen Sue Riel of Parkersburg, W.Va., Teresa L. Rice and husband, Dave, of Boaz, W.Va. and Ronald Harvey Riel of Summerville, SC; one sister, Gladys M. May of Cumberland, Md.; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Riel; one brother, Frank Smallwood; and her sister-in-law and best friend, Juanita Trussell.The family would like to thank Worthington Manor Nursing Facility for all of their loving care.Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon Monday, Jan. 3, 2011 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Avenue, Vienna with Pastor Rick Kapple officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen South Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
