Lyle W. Gates, 63 of Parkersburg passed away November 10, 2017 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born September 30, 1954 in Wood County, WV a son of the late Lloyd “Elmer”and Cecila “Ann” Huffman Gates. He was retired from Johns-Manville and was a member of the Quarter Century Club and Red Hill United Methodist Church. He was a descendant of Daniel Boone and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved farming and his cattle. He was known as a wonderful bread maker. Lyle is survived by his wife, Marsha D. (Cross) Gates; two daughters, Jennifer Anne Gates of Parkersburg and Amanda June Gates (Clinton Wayne Cottrell) of Spencer, WV; bonus sons, David (Tracy) Bush and Timothy (Tina) Bush; a brother, William Lee (Liesa) Gates of Rockport, WV; grandchildren, Haley Cottrell, Brian Cottrell and Brandon (Courtney) Cottrell. Lyle was the son-in-law of Ralph & Wilma Cross; brother-in-law of Nancy Bush, Martha (Dale) Archer; and Cindy (Ken) Hagerman; and the late and missed brother-in-law of Harvey Butcher; special nieces & nephews, Melissa (Erick) Stuart, Elizabeth (Katelyn) Lipscomb, Kimberlee Archer (Lexi & Lliam) and Adam (Toni) Butcher; and his dog, Gracie. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Friday, November 17, 2017 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. south Parkersburg with Rev. Mary Zimmer and Pastor Roy Lynn Roush officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Shiloh Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, make a donation to a charity of your choice or spend special time with family or friends.
