Lillie C. Gates, 88, formerly of Rockport, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Cedar Grove Personnal Care. She was born May 5, 1929, in Jackson County, WV, a daughter of the late Charlie and Ettie Thompson Boyce. Lillie formerly worked at Viscose and for a short time she taught school, school bus driver and she loved farming. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Gant (David) of Elizabeth, WV; one son, James Henry Gates (Anna) of Elizabeth, WV; one sister, Faye Hanson of Coolville, Ohio; one brother, Charles Boyce of Rockport, WV; her three grandchildren, Michelle Workman (IV), Matthew Gates, and Cassie Stutler (Jason); and four great-grandchildren, Austin, Drew, Aaron, and Addy. In addition to her parents Lillie was preceded in death by her husband, William Russell Gates; an infant sister; two sisters, Opal Milhbaugh and Garnet Thomas; and four brothers, Earl, Truman, Lawrence, and Cecil Boyce. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg with Jason Stutler officiating. Interment will follow at Gates Ridge Cemetery, Rockport, WV. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
