Lillie C. Gates

Lillie C. Gates, 88, formerly of Rockport, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Cedar Grove Personnal Care. She was born May 5, 1929, in Jackson County, WV, a daughter of the late Charlie and Ettie Thompson Boyce. Lillie formerly worked at Viscose and for a short time she taught school, school bus driver and she loved farming. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Gant (David) of Elizabeth, WV; one son, James Henry Gates (Anna) of Elizabeth, WV; one sister, Faye Hanson of Coolville, Ohio; one brother, Charles Boyce of Rockport, WV; her three grandchildren, Michelle Workman (IV), Matthew Gates, and Cassie Stutler (Jason); and four great-grandchildren, Austin, Drew, Aaron, and Addy. In addition to her parents Lillie was preceded in death by her husband, William Russell Gates; an infant sister; two sisters, Opal Milhbaugh and Garnet Thomas; and four brothers, Earl, Truman, Lawrence, and Cecil Boyce. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg with Jason Stutler officiating. Interment will follow at Gates Ridge Cemetery, Rockport, WV. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gates Ridge United Methodist Church, Elizabeth, WV.
