Another WW II Veteran has gone home to be in the Lords Army. Leonard Leroy Wiggins Sr., 91, of Belpre, born July 3, 1926, entered the gates of Heaven on July 6, 2017. He served in the US Army from 1944 to 1946. He worked at Universal Glass / Diamond Glass from 1942-1987 in the maintenance department. But the love of his life was working for the City of Belpre, mowing and caring for the parks. He worked there from 1988 to 2007 and finally retired at the age of 81 years old. He was a member of the Christ Mission Baptist Church and Belpre Masonic Lodge 609. Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Mary Frances Hoyler Wiggins; his son, Leonard L. Wiggins II (Kathy) of Belpre; daughters, Beth Wiggins of Belpre, Diane Wiggins of NC, Martha Somerville (Ross) of NC, and Janey Wiltshire (Jim) of WA; twelve grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. A Celebration of his life will be held July 22 at the Belpre Bingo / Training Center on Stone Road, Belpre, Ohio from 11am – 2 pm, please come and share. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Christ Mission Baptist Church in memory of Leonard.
