Leon James Jones, 72, of Parkersburg, passed away November 13, 2019 at the Camden Clark Medical Center. He was born March 10, 1947 in Harrisville, WV, the youngest son of the late George Claude and Golda Esther (Smith) Jones. He was a 1965 graduate of Parkesburg High School and worked for several years with the reunion committee. After attending Mountain State Business College, Leon spent the majority of his career in car sales and management in the Parkersburg area, and was a member of the Parkersburg chapter of AMBUCS. As an avid sports fan, Leon (with his son Brian) supported and attended the football and basketball games for all four Wood County high schools, loved watching WVU, NASCAR, and the Cleveland Browns. Surviving is his loving wife of almost 40 years, Nancy (Shimp) Jones; son, Brian Jones of Parkersburg; daughter, Kimberly (Seth) Cox and grandson, Ethan Cox of Columbus; sister, Ruth Carder of Belpre; brother-in-law, Charles Shimp of Spencer, WV; nieces, Donna Jean (Mark) Moore of Louisville, KY, Susan (Gary) Steed of Washington, WV, Nicole Shimp of Asheboro, NC and nephew, Charles (Heather) Shimp of Asheboro, NC, as well as several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Leon was also preceded in death by his older brother, David Earl Jones of Harrisville and brother-in-law, Donald Carder of Belpre. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, November 18, 2019 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg, with Bob Carr officiating. Burial will follow at Liverpool Cemetery in Jackson County, WV. The family will receive friends from 11:30 A.M. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
