Kenneth Stephen Parker

Kenneth Stephen “Steve” Parker, 65, of Mineral Wells, WV, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Friday, July 13, 2018 at his residence. He was born March 28, 1953 in Norfolk, Va., a son of the late Kenneth and Margaret Elizabeth Hawkins Parker. Steve graduated from Lewis County High School with the class of 1971 where he played football, ran track and wrestled and was in the marching band. He attended Potomac State College and graduated from Glenville State College where he received his teachers degree, played football and was active in the TKE Fraternity. Steve retired after 35 years of teaching and coaching at various schools in the Mid Ohio Valley. He coached a variety of sports including track, wrestling and football. He was very proud of three state football championships during his tenure as a football coach at Parkersburg High School. While at PHS he was a Drivers Ed teacher and owned and operated Parkersburg Driving School. Steve loved old time folk music and played guitar and autoharp for the family band Sweet Creek. He was co-founder of the Gathering at Sweet Creek. Steve cherished his time with his family especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Tammy Tuell Parker who he married May 22, 1977; three daughters, Katelyn Walls (Travis) of Mineral Wells, Merideth Paff (Michael) of Gardiner, NY. and Tracy Wine (Jack) of Weston, WV; three grandchildren, Parker, Nicholas and Katrina and one great-grandchild, Silas. One sister, Kennetha Parker-Howes(Mark) of Hacker Valley, WV; one brother, Willie Parker (Cynde) of Buckhannon, WV; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Parker of Weston, WV; step-mother, Cheryl Parker of French Creek, WV and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, J.B. Parker and one grandson, Storm. A memorial service will be held 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike Street, south Parkersburg with Reverend Steven Tuell, Reverend Rod Blanchard, and Reverend Bill Hairston officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Monday and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the West Virginia State Folk Festival, P.O.Box 362, Glenville, WV. 26351.
