A Memorial Video to Judith is now available on this site. Judith A. Ball died peacefully on March 18, 2016 surrounded by her family. This was following a 6 ½ year battle with numerous health issues. Judi loved her family, travel and cooking, and all things West Virginia. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, James A. “Jim” Ball; her children, Tabitha of Auburn, MI, Mackenzie MacIntyre (Dougal) of Parkersburg, W.Va., John Caldwell III of Marietta, OH, and James Jr. (Sam McCoy) of Cincinnati, OH; and four grandchildren, Greyce and Hugh MacIntyre of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Aiden and Asher McCoy-Ball of Cincinnati, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen D. and Ruth Smith. Judi was born May 31, 1949 in Wheeling, W.Va. Raised in Parkersburg, she graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1967 and Alderson Broaddus College in 1971. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother (Noni), she was most noted for her advocacy to stop the cycle of Domestic Violence as the Executive Director of the Family Crisis Intervention Center. She became known throughout the state for her efforts to educate and train law enforcement personnel on the laws and how best to approach individuals affected by Domestic Violence. Judi served on several state committees through Gubernatorial appointments during her tenure. Following retirement, she and her best friend Michele Rusen organized and opened the Children’s Listening Place, a child advocacy effort. In lieu of flowers, donations to Children’s Listening Place would support Judi’s continued vision and advocacy to create peace.
