Parkersburg

Joy Gibson, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, partner, artist, and truly one of a kind soul, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026, at Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

Joy was born on January 27th, 1947 in Hackensack, New Jersey, and went on to call Parkersburg, West Virginia, home for more than 30 years. She was known by many as Morgana Joy, The Mom, purple Grandma, grammoo, and grand ma ma.

Joy was an artist in every sense of the word. For many years, she was self-employed creating beautiful clay art, copper-wire window pendants, unique handmade treasures, and countless other creations. Her creativity never stopped. Even until the day she passed, Joy was still making art and creating special things for the people she loved.

For Joy, gift-giving was a love language. She was constantly creating or finding little treasures for family and friends, especially for the people whose company she enjoyed most. Her gifts were never simply objects - they were pieces of herself, thoughtfully chosen and lovingly made.

Joy was a woman unlike any other. She loved her cats, her family, old movies, science fiction, documentaries, and anything mystical. She loved animals, and nature so much. She enjoyed socializing and could spend hours upon hours talking about anything and everything. She was always hungry for knowledge, and wanted to learn about everything. She embraced her Pagan faith and found beauty, mystery, and magic in the world around her. She was wonderfully witchy, endlessly creative, and unapologetically herself. There was truly no one else like Joy, and there never will be.

She is survived by her loving partner of 30 years, Tim Couture; her children, Two Daughters; Donna Parsons, Jo Romano, and one son, James & Stacy Lawless-Gibson; her nine grandchildren, six grand daughters; Sunshine, Breanna, Samantha & John, Kayla, Kendra, Kasey; three grandsons, Brett, Lucca, and Mason; one adopted Granddaughter, Rachel; and her six great-grandchildren, Lilly, Sophia, Alexander, Noah, Grayson, and Malachi; and one grand child on the way; David James. Her three cats, Pickles fat cat, Baby cat(her favorite), and patches.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents; Richard & Rose Gibson and her young love, James Lyle Lawless in 1980; and her dearest cat Gato.

Joy leaves behind a lifetime of love, creativity, memories, and handmade treasures that will continue to remind her family and friends of her. She was incredibly unique, deeply loved, and completely irreplaceable. Her magic will live on in the people she loved, the art she created, and all of the little pieces of herself she left behind.

There will never be another Joy. Thank you to the many friends and family who loved her, and supported her.

Blessed be. “Love you bye, woo.”

There will be a celebration of life head next year on the spring equinox. We will have more information to follow later.
