Joseph J. Powell, 81, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away Sept. 9, 2011 at Camden-Clark Medical Center, Transitional Care Unit.Joe was born Sept. 18, 1929, at Crane Run in Gilmore County, W.Va., a son of the late J. Glenn and Alsie Rebecca Kirkpatrick Powell.He was employed at O'Ames for 30 years and after retirement drove cars for Warner Pontiac.He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma Lee Goudy Powell; two sons, Joseph E. Powell and wife Tammy of Vienna, W.Va. and Terry L. Powell of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two granddaughters, Sheri Adams and her fiancé Brian of Mineral Wells, W.Va. and Megan Underwood and her husband David of Vienna,W.Va.; two great-granddaughters, Nicole Landis of Mineral Wells, W.Va. and Emmy Underwood of Vienna, W.Va.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Creed and Dick Powell; sisters, Opal Adams and Roxie McGinnis; and an infant son, James Lester Powell.Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2011 at Lambert-Tatman 400 Green St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Rev. Sandy Runnion officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the services Monday at the funeral home.The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Hopkins, Dr. Gnegy, Dr. Barsoum and the staff of the Transitional Care Unit for their wonderful care.Memorial contributions may be made to the Transitional Care Unit, c/o The Camden-Clark Medical Center Foundation, envelopes will be provided by the funeral home.
