Joleen Swadley McMillion, 90, of Vienna passed away February 1, 2026. She was born in Harrisville, WV on April 28,1935 and resided there until 1994 when she and her husband relocated to Vienna to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Loris and Edith Swadley.

She was a 1953 graduate of Harrisville High School and was the homecoming queen and Walnut Festival Princess. She was a longtime member of St. Luke’s United Methodist church where she sang in and directed the choir. After moving to Vienna, she joined Wayside UM where she met many new friends and acquaintances, including a lunch group she met on a weekly basis until her recent illness. She had a beautiful singing voice and was asked to sing at several weddings and funerals. She was also a former member of the Parkersburg Choral Society. She was very active in her daughters’ lives by volunteering for various 4-H camp activities and acting as homeroom mother alongside her best friend, Doris Jo Childers. She also organized the Red Cross bloodmobile in Ritchie County. Additionally, she was an avid lover of reading and travel, especially (over 20) cruises.

She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Cowger (Denny) and Jill Jones Kirk (Bruce Kirk), beloved brother, Steve Swadley (Anne), as well as 4 grandchildren, Brooke Cowger, Brent Cowger, Nicholas Jones and Elizabeth Jones (Brian Carder). Her great-granddaughter and namesake, Chandler Joleen Carder, was her pride and joy over the last year. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews as well as a brother-in-law, Dr. Moseley Winkler.

In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband of 48 years, James (Jim) McMillion and her sister, Sharon Winkler.

Special thanks for the care and compassion demonstrated by the Wyngate staff as well as the Camden Clark chemotherapy unit and ICU team.
