John Andrew Swearingen, 69, of Walker, WV, passed away April 13, 2016 at St. Frances Select Specialty in Charleston, W.Va. He was born December 8, 1946, in Walker, a son of Sylvia “Alice” McCray of Parkersburg, W.Va. and the late Fred Swearingen. John was a retired self-employed contractor and enjoyed fishing and was an avid CB radio operator, where he was known as “Wood Splitter”. In addition to his mother Sylvia, he is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia Reed Swearingen; one daughter, Angela Richter of Parkersburg; four sons, Rodney D. Swearingen of Walker, Robert Paul Swearingen (Penni) of Vincent, OH, William B. Swearingen (Alyssa) and Tim J. Swearingen (Rose) both of Walker; two sisters, Janie Smith and Sue Swearingen both of Parkersburg; four brothers, Dave Hyde of North Carolina, Tim Swearingen of Parkersburg, Kurt Swearingen of Gassaway, W.Va. and Sam Swearingen of Parkersburg; and nine grandchildren. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Melissa Swearingen; and his granddaughter, Caitlin Richter. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2016 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green Street, with Pastor Don Yeager officiating. Interment will follow at Walker Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday and one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.
