It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John R. Sturm Sr., who left us peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, just shy of his 79th birthday. John was a resident of Parkersburg. A father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be missed by many.
Born in Harrisville, West Virginia, on June 29, 1947, and raised in Grantsville, WV, John was the youngest of four children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lenna R. Sturm and Bessie O. Sturm; his beloved wife of over 31 years, Ruth A. White Sturm; his siblings, Marie Cheesbrew (John) and Robert "Bob" Sturm (Phyliss); his son-in-law, Rodney McIntyre, and his foster brother, Thomas Barker (Gail).
John worked as an Industrial Mechanic at E.I. DuPont, dedicating over 35 years of his life to his career. His commitment to his work reflected the diligence and integrity he carried throughout all aspects of his life.
He is survived by his loving children, Jeffery Scott Sturm (Jackie) and John Sturm Jr. (Lisa); his step-children, Vicki Adams (David), Donna McIntyre, Randy McMurray, and Michael McMurray (Jackie). He also leaves behind several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. In addition he is survived by his sisters-in-law, Shelba Smith and Marilyn Sellers, and brother-in-law, Johnny White. John's profound impact on his family and friends will not soon be forgotten.
A visitation to honor John's life will be held on Monday, June 29, from 4-8 p.m. at the Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, located on Pike Street in South Parkersburg. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark James officiating. Following the service, John will be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Gardens.
