John Brian Province

May 27, 1957 — Oct 18, 2026

Mineral Wells

On October 18, 2026, the world lost an amazing son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. John Province was born into the family of the late Joe and Patricia Bargeloh Province of Mineral Wells on May 27, 1957, and what a journey he has taken.

John’s mind was always in motion. From an early age, John wanted to know how things worked. He and his father built the house John shared with his family. Friends and family brought their vehicles (including tractors) to him. There was nothing John couldn’t fix. His tenacity for problem solving was inspiring.

College turned John’s life around. He originally majored in electrical engineering. While at WVU, he found his true calling in his first computer science class. After working for various computer data companies, including EDS, he left to start his own computer service company. After twenty-eight years, he “retired” to do consulting for one client.

Music was important to John. He was a proud member of the Parkersburg South High School band. The trombone he played was later used by his son during his years at PSHS. During John’s senior year at PSHS, Dan Thomas founded the Madrigals, through which many life-time friendships were formed. John was proud to attend the fifty-year Madrigals reunion.

Spending time with family was of utmost importance to him. He is survived by his mother, Patricia Province, whom he faithfully called every night whether he was at home or traveling; Treve Mathews Province, his high school sweetheart, his wife, and the first of his two girls; his son, Ben (Randy) Province, who was his best friend and favorite guy to talk out technical issues; his beautiful granddaughter, Sophia Province, whom he adored and who was the second of his two girls; his sister, Susan (Brad) Burge, whom he loved and appreciated for so many reasons; his niece, Abbie Burge, and nephew, DJ Burge; and great nephews, Mason and Henry Burge.

John and Treva built a wonderful forty-seven-year marriage filled with many adventures and misadventures, including boating, skiing, cross-country motorcycle trips, camping, and remodeling projects.

The family will host a memorial service at a later date. The family appreciates calls and texts. Death is never easy, but his passing less than a month after his diagnosis has stunned us. We will all miss his laughter, touch, and humor. He lived a life of no regrets.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Parkersburg South Madrigal Group, 1511 Blizzard Drive, Parkersburg, WV, 26101, or the Rosenbaum House at Ruby Memorial Hospital, 30 Family House Drive, Morgantown, WV, 26506.

Please do an act of kindness today in memory of a quiet, fun-loving man.

Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, South Parkersburg has been entrusted with John’s final services and is honored to assist his family.
