John Cox, 85, of Walker, W.Va., passed away surrounded by his loving family, on August 23, 2015, at Camden Clark Medical Center.He was born on November 21, 1929, in Craigsville, W.Va., a son of the late Joe and Emma Williams Cox.He served in the United Sates Navy during the Korean War stationed on the U.S.S. Quincey. He later retired from Borg-Warner Chemical in 1985.He loved bluegrass music. He and his wife hosted bluegrass music festivals at Cox's Field for many years. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carol Weese Cox; three children, Sandi (Kevin) Westbrook of Walker, Rick (Joyce) Cox of Point Pleasant, W.Va., and Ron Cox of Walker; three grandsons, Lee (Billie) Sprout, Neil Sprout, J.P. (Tessa) Cox; four great-grandsons, Braiden Sprout, Spence Cox, Bryce Sprout, and Casen Cox; a sister, Winnive Bevins; one brother, Randle (Dortha) Cox; a sister-in-law, Carley Cox; three nephews, Lonnie (Mary) Cox, David (B.J.) Cox, and John (Therese) Cox.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lou Cox, Denny Cox, and Bill Cox; a sister, Thelma Hammons; and two infant sisters.A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
