John Frederic Kelley

Dr. John Frederic Kelley, born in Gay, W.Va., September 17, 1931 to Audra Cunningham and Waldo Kelley, died at the age of 81 late Christmas evening.He was an active licensed physician in W.Va. Dr. Kelley was still working until his recent illness. He was an alumni of Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio,and McGill University's School Of Medicine, Montreal, Canada. Dr. Kelley served his general medical internship at Virginia Medical College, Richmond, Va. and psychiatric residency at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He then served as a Navy Psychiatrist to the Marine Corp. at Camp Leguene. He had a forensic psychiatric fellowship at Patuent State Prison in Maryland and served his child residency at the Child Institute at Clark University in Worchester, Massachusets. He was board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in adult psychiatry and by the American Board Of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. For the next 23 years he worked as a child psychiatrist with the West Virginia University Medical School, rising to the chair of child psychiatry as a full professor. While in Morgantown, W.Va. he worked with various mental health organizations in the Morgantown area and numerous state and national organizations some of which include the Pittsburg Regional Council of Child Psychiatrists and the American Academy of Psychiatry committee of Rural Child Psychiatry. Dr. Kelly was a lifetime fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and of the AMA and APA working in Parkersburg, W.Va. until his illness. Dr. Kelly was a consulting child psychiatrist for Westbrook Health Services and Pressley Ridge School and was previously employed with St. Joseph Hospital and the Counseling and Wellness-Center.Dr. Kelley was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Jane Ellen Seested Kelley; and is survived by his son, Colin; daughters, Bridget and Kathleen; granddaughter, Diana; and his beloved cat, Angel-Sally.Memorial contributions may be made to West Virginia Public Broadcasting, Marietta College, your local Humane Society or the charity of your choice in his honor.Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2012 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Avenue, Vienna, W.Va. with Pastor Ralph Hayes officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and one hour prior to services Sunday at the funeral home. Cremation services will follow.The family requests that in memory of John, loud ties be worn at the funeral service.
