John "Jerry" Jerome Heye

John Jerome “Jerry” Heye, 97, of Parkersburg completed his earthly journey Saturday, September 14, 2019. He was born February 19, 1922 in Rapid City, S.D., a son of the late Gerard and Josephine Hoff Heye. Also prominent in Jerry’s life was his step-father, Scovel Johnson. Jerry graduated from Custer High School in 1940 and spent four years in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He was a graduate of Marquette University and graduated from the University of South Dakota Law School in June 1949. Jerry was in private practice, as a defense lawyer at his hometown of Custer, S.D. While at Custer, he also was county state’s attorney. His career led him to be a specialized labor lawyer while working for Martin-Marietta at Longmont, Colorado. Later, Jerry spent several years working for the Army Ammunition Plant at Joliet, Ill. The last 33 years of his work career was spent as a lawyer at the U.S. Treasury Department, Bureau of Public Debt and retired from his work career in July 2003, at the age of 81. Jerry enjoyed his many friendships at the Bureau of Public Debt, North Parkersburg Baptist Church, Fairlawn Baptist Church and Little Hocking Evangelical Methodist Church. During his lifetime, his favorite pastimes were fishing at his beloved Sylvan Lake, plus deer and pheasant hunting in South Dakota and Wyoming. Jerry was an avid reader and enjoyed creating stain glass projects. He was a member of the North Parkersburg Baptist Church. Those left to cherish Jerry’s memories are his wife, Nancy Ellen Daniell Heye; his two sons, Richard L. “Rick” Heye (Nancy) of Shorewood, Ill. and John J. Heye, Jr. of Stafford, VA; daughter-in-law, Emily Heye of Chicago, Ill; one granddaughter, Stacia (J.J.) Hersey of Alexandria, VA; one grandson, Jonathan (Tjarda) Heye of Texas; a great-granddaughter, Maeve Heye; also Nancy’s daughter, Lisa (Jim) Murphy; and son, Jeff Godfrey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William John Heye. Jerry and Nancy would like to thank the staffs of Housecalls Home Health and Amedisys Hospice for their excellent care of Jerry during his last months of life. A celebration of Jerry’s Life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2019, at the North Parkersburg Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Towner officiating and with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 15. Interment will follow at the Two Run Baptist Church Cemetery, Wirt County. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the services Saturday at the church. Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Green St, Parkersburg is assisting the family with arrangements.
