John Austin Harper

John Austin Harper, 59, of Waverly, WV passed away Saturday, May 30, 2026 at his residence. He was born July 3, 1966 to the late Ralph A. and Lula Bell Drennen Harper.

John was employed with Belmont Healthcare Center for 15 years doing maintenance. In his free time, he enjoyed tending to his yard, sitting on the porch watching wildlife, and spending precious time with his grandchildren.

Left to cherish John’s memory include his loving wife, Sherial Metheney; his son, John Allen Harper; step-sons, Robert Lee Metheney and Joshua Dalton Matheney; his brothers, Ralph Harper and Daniel Harper; grandchildren, Dalton, Gabby, Sarah, Mahala, Jennalee, and Madison; great-grandchildren, Jensen and Atlas; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, David Harper.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Oncology staff and doctors at Camden Clark Medical Center for their excellent care.
