John Lewis Doak

There is now a video tribute to John available on this web site.John Lewis Doak of Parkersburg passed away May 24, 2015 at his home with family by his side.He was born in Parkersburg, the son of the late Rex. R. Doak and Loretta Lamm Doak Sullivan.He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and received the Vietnam Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He served aboard the USS Harold J. Ellison, the USS Newport News and the USS Barney. He was proud to have served his country.He attended Parkersburg Community College and earned an Associates degree in Applied Science. He was well known throughout the community and had worked at Parkersburg Delivery Service. He was also an entrepreneur, owning four businesses.He was a member of the Spreading Truth Ministries Church, the American Legion, and the VFW of Salem. He had a passion for travelling, boating, fishing, going to the beach and spending time with family. John is survived by his wife of 10 years, Christine Summers Doak; four daughters, Pamela Lewallen (Kevin) of Reidsville, NC, Jonna Wigal (Joe) of Marietta, OH, Julie Whytsell (Evan) of Fort Mill, SC and Jordan Doak of Parkersburg; two sons, Nathaniel Doak and Joshua Doak both of Parkersburg; two sisters, Sue Crislip (Chuck) and Sharon Drain (Ed) both of Parkersburg; and eight grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Emily, Olivia, and Gabriel Lewallen, Nate and Alyssa Wigal, and Ava and Ella Whytsell. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews who will always remember his sense of humor.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jill Doak; his sister, Sandra Riddle; a niece, Lisa Schmidt, and father-in-law, David Summers. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Spreading Truth Ministries, Core Road Parkersburg. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Tisdale officiatingBurial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
