John Milton Curkendall, 71, of Vienna, W.Va. passed away at his residence July 26, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.He was born January 1, 1940 in Volga, W.Va., the son of the late Marvin Milton Curkendall and Bessie Payne Curkendall.John retired from G.E. Plastics in 2003 where he worked in the warehouse. He loved baseball and still holds the world record of 18 successive strikeouts in the Babe Ruth World Series in 1955. He also enjoyed hunting and loved to walk.He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Helen Frame Curkendall; one daughter, Katherine Curkendall of Vienna, W.Va.; one son, John “Todd” and wife Jane Curkendall of Elizabethtown, Ky; one sister, JoAnn Simons of Circleville, Ohio; five brothers, twin brother Max of Parkersburg, W.Va., Deward of Paynesville, Ohio, Ron of Volga, W.Va., Sam of Washington, W.Va., and Gary of Williamstown, W.Va.John is also survived by four grandchildren, Brandon and Rebecca Curkendall and Brette and Carly Scala.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Beryl Hall and Mary Smearman, and one brother Kenny Curkendall.Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2011 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Avenue, Vienna, W.Va. Burial will follow at Evergreen North Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
