John Phillip Bumgarner

January 16, 1950 — July 26, 2022

John Phillip (Phil) Bumgarner went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 26th at his home on Beulah Hill in Wirt County, WV. He was born January 16, 1950 and was the son of the late Charles H. Bumgarner Jr. “Bummy” and Mary Cline Bumgarner. Phil was a lifelong Wirt County, WV resident and cattle farmer who worked for 48 years as a school bus driver in the county. His faith was a cornerstone of his life and family, and he invested in church teaching, leadership and service in roles, from trustee to deacon and Sunday school teacher, serving in whatever way was needed. World missions were close to his heart, and Phil made three trips to Bolivia in recent years. Following in the footsteps of his father, mother, and brothers, Phil was a lifelong servant to his community, working countless hours for the Camp Barbe Association and WV 4-H. Phil lived his life in joyful, loving service to others. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Coleen Hall Bumgarner and their children; Nathan (Sandra) Bumgarner, Natalie Bumgarner, Neil (Blair) Bumgarner; grandchildren, Justin (Chelsea) Rogers, Allison, Will, and Elliot Bumgarner; mother-in-law Reberta Hall, one brother, Mike (Beth) Bumgarner; three sisters, Mary Frances Park, Sharon Gainer (Larry) and Annette Strimer (John); sisters-in-law, JoAnn Bumgarner, Pat Bumgarner VanTromp, Sarah (Lewis) Deacon, Lois Robinson and many cherished nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Phil is preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Tom Bumgarner, father-in-law Robert Hall, two brothers-in-law, Max Park and David Hall In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Camp Barbe Association for dining hall renovations, Camp Barbe Association, PO Box 443 Elizabeth, WV 26143. Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 11AM, July 30th, 2022 at South Parkersburg Baptist Church with Pastor Adam Paff officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, July 29th, 2022 from 5PM-8PM at the church. Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, South Parkersburg, is honored to serve the Bumgarner family.
