John Boyd Brown, 84, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011. He was born June 18, 1926, in Irwin, Penn., a son of the late Louis E. and Grace Boyd Brown.John retired from GE Plastics, the former Borg-Warner, where he had been in management. He is a US Air Corp veteran, having served in WWII. He is a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, is a current member and former Monarch of Ben Bey Grotto, and a member of Mt. Olivet Masonic Lodge #3. John is a member at the Eagles, Moose, VFW Lodge, and the Habitat for Humanity of Tennessee. He is a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a current member of St. Xavier Catholic Church.Surviving are his loving wife, Cecelia Hofmeister Brown; two daughters, Sandee J. Welch (Jeff) of Bowie, Maryland, and Laurie L. McKain (Mike) of Marietta, Ohio; two sons, Ronald L. Brown of Bowie, Maryland, and Kent A. Brown (Tina) of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; two step-children, Margo Jacob (Mike) and Michael Hofmeister; one sister, Louise Kemble (Walt) of North Huntingdon, Penn.; one sister-in-law, Linda Brown of Lakeland, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Dawn Kieffer, Wendy Dean (Brian), Brent Brown, Paige McKain Stanley (Alex) and Ian McKain, Aimee and Erich Welch, and step-grandchild, Aaron Newman ; four great-grandchildren, Tristan and Avery Kieffer, and Taylor and Madison Dean; and a host of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Walker Brown; one brother, Ed Brown; and his great-granddaughter, Jayleigh Alexis Stanley.Prior to services on Saturday, May 7, 2011 the family will receive friends from 11 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green Street, Parkersburg, W.Va. where full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg at 12:45 p.m. Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 532 Market Street, Parkersburg, W.Va. with Father Eric Hall officiating. Continuation of visitation will follow at 2:30 p.m. for a gathering of food and fellowship at the St. Francis Xavier Parish Hall, 609 Market Street, Parkersburg, W.Va.Memorial contributions may be made to the Habitat for Humanity or the St. Francis Xavier Food Cupboard. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
