Joanna Dent Yielky, 96, formerly of Parkersburg, WV and Hallandale Beach, FL passed away August 22, 2020 in Lenoir, NC. She was born April 15, 1924 to the late Lottie and Harry Dent at Slate, WV. Jo was educated in Wood County Schools. During WWII, she and her two sisters lived in Akron, OH where she lasted less than two weeks as a “Rosie-the-Riveter”, then worked in a dry-cleaning facility and a restaurant until the war ended. She married Paul Yielky on June 8, 1945, and together they owned and operated Yielky’s Hamburger Stand in Parkersburg. Preceding in death besides her parents and husband of 47 years were her two sisters, Helen Dent Grover and Francis Dent Banks; two brothers, Albert “Mac” Dent and Retis “Reed” Dent; one infant brother, Carroll Dent; and her step-son, Donald Yielky of Ashland, KY. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Phipps (Bob) of Lenoir, NC; one granddaughter, Jennifer Young of Hallandale Beach, FL; two great-granddaughters, Samantha Krieg (Zach) of Manchester, NH and Daria Young of Hallandale Beach, FL; several cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends, along with all the customers of Yielky’s. Funeral services for Jo will be noon Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg with Pastor David Carrico officiating.
