Joan Lois Tennant Root

Joan Lois Tennant Root, 87, of Washington, WV, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2019 at her residence. She was born December 22, 1931, in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late William and Agnes Fox Mays. Joan enjoyed cooking/baking and flower gardening. She was Baptist by faith. Joan is survived by her husband of nearly 53 years, Carl Root; her children, John Tennant (Sharon) of Washington, WV, Allen Tennant of Washington, WV and Warren Root (Stephanie) of Virginia; brothers and sisters, Robert Mays, Ruth Ann Moore and Laurie Mays; grandchildren, Austin K. Root, Chelsey N. Root, Blaize Root, Lance Tennant and Chris Tennant; great-grandchildren, Aurora Tennant, Victoria Tennant, Nathaniel Tennant, Zuriah and Slayton; Joan also helped raise nine foster children. She was truly a woman found in Proverbs 31: 10-31 and Titus 2: 4-5. A very special thanks to Mirian Buchanan and Charlotte Gilcrest who stopped by of mornings and sang songs to Joan. They were a blessing to her. Thanks also to Jason Smith and Paul Jenkins who were kind and thoughtful. A special thanks to hospice especially Donna, Kim, Greg, Michelle, Kimberly, Emily and all the others who were a tremendous help during this very trying time. We will always be thankful. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her first husband, Clyde J. Tennant; daughter, Beverly Sue Tennant; one brother, Charles Mays; two sisters, Wanda Camp and Patsy Allen; and her grandparents, Charles and Alice West Mays and Lawson and Grace Harris Fox. A private graveside gathering will be at the convenience of the family. Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St, south Parkersburg is assisting the family.
