Jimmy “JD” David Murray, 87, of Washington, WV, passed away February 3, 2026 at the VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born August 10, 1938, in Spencer, WV., a son of the late Edward Maxwell and Myrtle Jones Murray.
JD was a graduate of Ripley High School in Jackson County. Afterwards he served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea and then in Colorado Springs, Co. and then in the U.S. Army Reserves. He worked at FMC American Viscose and Cynamid Willow Island plants, before eventually retiring from the WV Department of Highways.
He enjoyed attending his granddaughters ball games, gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor, and later in life attending bluegrass and gospel sings, and going to auctions. Jimmy also had a fond interest in volunteering his time in sports. He was a multiple sport volunteer coach for Rayon and Mineral Wells Elementary as well as Edison and Hamilton Jr. High Schools. He was also proud to have been an umpire in over 2000 games over 30 years in the beginning era of the Don Godbey Memorial Fields that helped carved its future.
He is survived by his sons, Ricky Murray (Frances) of Lumberport, WV and James “Ed” Murray of Washington, WV; a special daughter, Tammy Templeton; grandchildren, Kacie Alizabeth Rodgers (Alex) and Karlie Alyson Murray; sister, Janet Wilson; and brother, Charles “Buck” Murray.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy Ann Murray, a daughter, Janice Ann; sisters, Beryl Bowman and Lela Anderson; and his brother, Rex Murray.
Funeral service will be 12:00 p.m., Monday, February 9, 2026 at Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St. South Parkersburg, with Pastor Aaron Marvel officiating. Full military rites will be observed. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Roane Co. Family will accept friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the kind and caring staff of the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Facility in Clarksburg, WV as well as the Bethel Baptist Church in Lubeck, WV.
