Jerry Blair Childers

June 2, 1947 — February 19, 2025

Jerry Blair Childers, 77, of Parkersburg , West Virginia passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 19, 2025, after an extended illness. He was born on June 2, 1947 in Clarksburg to Rufus and Juanita Childers.
A 1965 graduate of Victory High School in Clarksburg, he was an Air Force veteran, having served during Vietnam. As a chemical operator, he retired from the former Dupont Washington Works in 2005.
In retirement he continued to spend his time fishing, hunting and being outdoors, tinkering with his cars or keeping the roads of West Virginia hot with a coffee in hand. In the summer it would not be surprising to find him holding court grill side on the deck among his family, cooking or recalling a story from his wartime travels in Asia. Jerry never met anyone who wasn’t a friend and would frequently be found mornings at local gas stations chatting with fellow retirees, grabbing their coffees prepared for wherever the road may carry them that day.
As a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Vienna, Jerry was much loved by his church family. He was the “official” greeter and bellringer for many years. He had great love for his church family, but his greatest love was his family and those surviving him will carry him always in their hearts.
Surviving Jerry is the love of his life for 52 years, Nancy Childers of Parkersburg. Jerry is also survived by daughter, Valarie Caltrider and her husband Bryan of Parkersburg; as well as son, Jeff of Parkersburg. Additionally, Jerry is survived by grandchildren; Ashton Childers and fiancée, Dylan Dyke of Waverly, Ohio and Dani and Ryder Delong of Parkersburg and great-granddaughter, Arya Dyke of Waverly, Ohio. He is also survived by one brother, Fred Childers and his wife, Joye of Anson Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ruth Jamison.
Services for Jerry will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 1 PM at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home in Vienna with Rev. Robert Dean Cole officiating. Burial will occur after at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg. Visitation for Jerry will be held from 2 PM-4 PM and 5 PM – 7 PM on Monday, February 24, 2025 and one hour before service time.
