Jeffrey Scott Chase

December 28, 1942 — November 18, 2017

Dr. Jeffrey Scott Chase, “Jeff,” of Vienna, WV, 74, passed away at Marietta Memorial Hospital November 18, 2017 after a long illness. He leaves his wife, Pamela Sue (Hudgins) “Pam”; son Michael; and daughter Nichole Raynor, husband Jimmy, and children Madison and James. He was preceded in death by his parents, Laurence “Bud” Chase, 1997, and Marjorie (McKeage), 1999. A private service will be held Tuesday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home in Vienna, WV. Born in Binghamton, NY on December 28, 1942 while his father was serving in the war in Italy and the Pacific, he met his dad for the first time at the age of three when he returned from the war. Jeff grew up in Montrose, PA which he described as one of the happiest times of his life. He was a high school basketball star where he played guard in the state championship, a junior Pennsylvania bowling champion at age 16, and a great golfer where he won the Montrose CC Championship three times and had his first of eight holes in one! It was here he met his first wife and mother to his two children, Dorothy Hayes (now Dorothy Joyce). They were together over 30 years. He described himself at Montrose High School as “the best student who wasn’t a girl,” and continued a great academic career when he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Zoology from Cornell University in 1964; the same year his first child was born in the local hospital. After Cornell, he moved to Philadelphia to attend Jefferson Medical College where he earned a degree with AOA honors in 1968. His intern year followed in 1969 in Harrisburg, PA. Nichole, Jeff’s daughter was born while he was on his way to Vietnam in 1969 where he served as a flight surgeon in Saigon. After he returned to the USA he served three more years at Hunter Air Base in Savannah, GA and retired as a major in the US Army. Over the next three years, he did a residency in the department of radiology at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. In 1976, he made the final move of his life to Parkersburg, WV when he joined the Radiology Department at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital. Dr. Chase had a distinguished career and was considered by his peers, patients and family an excellent physician and became the Medical Director of Radiology until the end of his career. Pam worked as the Administrative Director of Radiology in the department and 20 years after she and Jeff met, they eloped to Las Vegas. A great cook, sportsman and professional, Dr. Jeffrey S. Chase touched the lives of his family, colleagues and friends and left the world a better place.
