It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janis Arlene Ryan, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed this life peacefully on Thursday, September 3rd, 2026, at the Ravenswood Village Nursing Home. Born on June 9th, 1955, in Parkersburg, Janis spent her years enriching the lives of those around her with grace, warmth, and kindness.
Janis was a cherished resident of Rockport, WV, where she lived a fulfilling life surrounded by family. A devoted homemaker, she also made significant contributions to the community and the workplace, having served at the Bureau of Public Debt from 1975 to 1988 and at Benson Truck Bodies. She loved attending church at Milhoan Ridge Baptist Church. It brought her great joy seeing her sons and grandchildren choosing to give their lives to God.
A woman of many talents, Janis had a passion for cooking, baking, and cake decorating for special events, often filling her home with the sweet aroma of her creations. Above all, she loved spending quality time with her family and adoring her grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her, especially while playing outside near her. Janis took time to enjoy and tend to God’s creation. She loved each season of the year and would wait with anticipation for the awakening of her beautiful flowers. She took care of each one and knew them by name and would beam with excitement over their beauty. She loved watching the clouds and seeing the amazing designs God created with each one.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert “John” Ryan, and her family, including her step-father Don "Judge" Earle who raised her and his spouse Evelyn; her two sons, Jeffrey Robert Ryan and his wife Heather Dawn, and Scott Michael Ryan and his wife Aleshia Kay; as well as a host of grandchildren: Michael Lee Ryan, Olivia Belle Ryan, Noah Jeffrey Ryan, Haley Morgan Ryan, Brooke Kay Ryan, and Brady Michael Ryan, all of whom will continue to carry forward her legacy of love and kindness.
Janis was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe Gilbert Stephens and Ava Gay Stephens.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation to be held on Tuesday, September 8th, 2026, from 6-8 PM and one hour prior to service, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., South Parkersburg. A funeral service will take place, Wednesday, September 9th, 2026, at 11:00am, at the funeral home with Pastor Ryan Brooks officiating. Following the service, Janis will be laid to rest at the Big Tygart Cemetery in Rockport.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the nursing home and those with Kanawha Hospice for their loving care for Janis.
Arrangements have been kindly provided by Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, South Parkersburg. Janis will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
