Janet Lee Smith

February 15, 1942 — September 3, 2020

Janet Lee Smith, 78, of Parkersburg, went to be with the Lord on September 3, 2020, at her residence, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born February 15, 1942 in Palestine, WV, the daughter of the late Hoyt and Blondena Miller Bumgarner. Janet was a graduate in 1960 from Wirt County High School and was a member of the marching band. She was a member of the Broadway Church of the Nazarene and was very close to her church family. She was a former youth director, taught Sunday School Class and was the church pianist and organist for many years .Janet was a homemaker who loved being with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchidren. Janet enjoyed gardening, flowers, and camping. Janet is survived by her husband, David Smith; one daughter, Terri Hall (Jeff) of Washington, WV; one son-in-law, Chris Sams of Washington, WV; one sister, Vonda Board of Parkersburg, WV; one sister-in-law, Linda Smith of Washington, WV; three brothers, Bruce Bumgarner (Neva) of Parkersburg, WV, David Bumgarner (Charlotte) of Parkersburg, WV and Ron Bumgarner (Vickie) OF Vienna, WV; four grandchildren, Adam Hall (Ashley), Hunter Sams (Tracie),Andrea Sallee (Josh) and Taylor Sams (Sara). Seven great-grandchildren, Brantley, Waylon, Brock, Josie, Nora, Layla and Beckett and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one daughter, Sherri Sams; two brothers-in-law, Harold Board and Paul Smith. Funeral services for Janet will be at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at the Broadway Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Larry Hall and Pastor Dan Kunselman officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memory Gardens, Parkersburg. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 8, 2020 from 4:00-8:00 pm. at the church and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Janet’s family requests memorial donations may be made to Music Dept. of the Broadway Church of the Nazarene, 901 Broadway Ave. Parkersburg, WV. 26101 The family wishes to thank Dr. Moses and Housecalls Hospice for their love and care.
