James Richard "J.R." Hill

James Richard “J.R.” Hill, age 70 of Davisville, WV, passed away March 24, 2018 at the Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born September 18, 1947 at Elkins, WV, the son of the late Aaron S. and Bonnie Nicholas Hill. J.R. was a 1965 graduate of Green Bank High School and graduated with a Masters Degree in Wild Life Management from West Virginia University. He then began his career as a game biologist in Greenbrier County, WV, out of the Lewisburg – White Sulphur Springs D.N.R. office with his friend and mentor James Pack on the West Virginia Wild Turkey restoration project for 5 years. In 1976, J.R. moved to the Parkersburg District 6 office of the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources where he participated in numerous wildlife projects, outdoor events and activities and retired after 38 years service as Game Biologist. J.R. was an excellent marksman whose passion was participating in area rifle matches, pistol matches, three gun competitions and loved shooting with his family and friends, the “Wild Bunch”. He was a proud member and volunteer of several organizations which included a life time membership in the National Rifle Association, the Friends of the N.R.A., Blennerhassett Chapter, was a board member of the W.Va. State Rifle and Pistol Association, was a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation where he was a board member and technical advisor for the Mid-Ohio Valley Chapter, he belonged to the Tuckers Creek Rifle Club, the Little Kanawha Rifle Club and shot regularly at the Fort Boreman Rifle Club with his friends. J.R. loved growing up hunting, fishing and living in West Virginia, watching the Mountaineers and going on his annual woodcock hunting trip at the McClintic Wildlife Management Area, Mason County, WV. J.R. is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cathy Love Hill; his son, Aaron James Hill and his wife Jody of Elizabeth, WV; his two granddaughters, Jordan Hill and Autunm Browning; and his sister, Rosalie Holder and her husband, James of Florence, SC. Opening remarks and prayer by family and friends, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2018 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg with a gathering of friends and family to follow until 4:00 p.m. The family requests that donations be made to The Friends of NRA, c/o James Caraz, 2005 Dutch Ridge Rd., Parkersburg, WV 26104 or to the Mid-Ohio Valley NWTF – JAKES Day event, c/o Dan Thomas, #17 Thomas Lane, Parkersburg, WV 26101.
