James Walter Holcomb

June 24, 1943 — May 17, 2016

James Walter Holcomb, 72, of Parkersburg, W.Va. went to be with his Lord and Savior May 17, 2016 at his residence. He was born June 24, 1943, in Warren, PA, a son of the late Howard C. and Vera Ruhlman Holcomb. James was a .U.S Army veteran. He attended Parkersburg Community College and WVU-P. He was a graduate of the WV State Police Academy and completed numerous other law enforcement courses and later retired from the Parkersburg City Police Department. After retirement he worked with troubled children at Pressley Ridge. James enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, wildfowl carving, canoeing, pigeon racing and loved being outdoors and taking care of his family property. He was a member of The Independent Baptist Church in Vienna. James is survived by his wife of fifty two years, Dixie Duerr Holcomb; two daughters, Rebecca L. Holcomb of California, Megan Suder (Andrew) of Panama City, FL; three sons, James W. Holcomb II (Jackie) of Parkersburg, John A. Holcomb (Suzanne) of Hereford, AZ and Ricky Frances Holcomb of Colorado Springs, CO; six grandchildren, James Scott Holcomb of Alaska, Stefanie Henry of Washington, Bailey and Joshua Holcomb of Parkersburg and Blake and Brooke Suder of Panama City, FL; one brother, Gary Holcomb (Judith) of Medford, MD; and two sisters, Kathy Richards (Robert) of Mineral Wells, W.Va. and Sue Suttle (John) of Long Bottom, OH. Services will be at 11:00 am. Saturday, May 21, 2016 at The Independent Baptist Church, Vienna, W.Va. with Pastor Michael Elder officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg.
