Date and Time of Service: Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010 11:00 a.m.posted 9/20/2010 at 3:24:31 PMJames Joseph “Joe” Brown, 87, of Vienna, W.Va. on September 18, 2010, in Charleston, W.Va., completed his earthly mission, which began November 12, 1922, in Fairmont, W.Va.Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Wayside United Methodist Church, 3001 Grand Central Avenue, in Vienna, W.Va., with the Rev. T. Patrick Kerr and the Rev. Joseph Kenaston officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.Since 1966, Joe owned and operated Brown Printing Service, in Parkersburg, a business forms distribution and printing consultation service. In addition to this business, he was president of Mid-Atlantic Corporation, providing services to small businesses in the area. For several years, he also served as office manager for Acorn Development, Inc. and their associated companies.A 50 year member of Wayside United Methodist Church, Joe served on various boards and committees of the Church, as well as a certified lay speaker. For more than 40 years, he was a member of the North Parkersburg Kiwanis Club, serving in several offices, as well as being a George F. Hixson Fellow. In 1980, he was instrumental in the formation of the North Parkersburg Kiwanis Foundation.During World War II, Joe served in the 8th Air Force as a combat radio operator aboard the B-24 “Belle” in the European Theater of Operations. He was stationed near Norwich, England, and completed 35 bombing missions over Germany.Following the war, he and his brother operated Brown and Company, a service business in Fairmont. He joined Fairmont Printing Company, as its Treasurer, in 1948. His career in printing also included manager of both Park Press, Inc. in Parkersburg, and Standard Printing & Publishing Company, in Huntington, W.Va., prior to establishing Brown Printing Service.He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Velma June “Betsy” Brown; daughter, Penelope Allen and her husband, Michael, of Allendale, NJ; son, Monty Brown and his wife Jane, of Charleston, W.Va.; and son, David Brown and his wife, Debbie, of Nallen, W.Va, as well as five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents Rufus and Laura Holmes Brown, two infant brothers, a sister Mildred Elizabeth Brown, and a brother R.
