James Louis Bartlett, 81, of Parkersburg, W.Va. died during the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 22, 2018 surrounded by his family in the home he built. He was born on June 21, 1937, of the late Lawrence and Florence Bartlett. Throughout his life, James was considered a hard-working family man. As a veteran of the U.S. Army, his work ethic and commitment to his country set an example of what it means to be tough, honorable and loyal. The respect he earned from both family and friends tells the story of a man who was kind and well-loved. Sometimes serious, and always steady as a rock, James loved spending time fishing, hunting and enjoying the great outdoors. After his time in the military, James worked as a bus driver for the Wood County school system. His experiences with the youth in our community prepared him for life as “Grandpa” and serving that role brought him the greatest joy of his life. James is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Nellie Bartlett; three children, James (Laurine) Bartlett, Sandy (Dante) Kidd, and Sherry (Scott) Lamp; eight grandchildren and their spouses; 11 great-grandchildren; and two brothers and two sisters. In lieu of services and per James’ request, the family will celebrate his life over the next few days at their family cabin. Everyone who knew James is asked to join in celebrating his life in the same way he lived his – with the people he loved most.
