Jackie “Jack” Lee Barker 81, of Williamstown, WV, passed away April 13, 2017 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born April 12, 1936 in Gilmer County, WV, the son of the late Orval Jennings Barker and Velma Kuhl Barker. Jack was an U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a retired Police Chief in Pennsboro, WV and a former California Highway Patrol Police Officer (CHiP). He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors and loved being a lawman. He also enjoyed making up his own silly songs. Some of which he called love songs, his wife would respond “thanks for letting me know”. Family members always waited for him to sing them their own silly song on birthdays every year. Jack was also a member of Riverside Church of Christ in Williamstown. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Charlotte Smith Barker; daughter, Catharine Kerr (William) of Parkersburg; son, Brian Barker of Williamstown; sister-in-law, Sarah Barker of Davisville; grandchildren, Christopher Kerr (Christy) of Parkersburg, Rebecca Hughes (Ryan) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Michelle Cooley (Matthew) of Stow, Ohio and Ashley Lies (Cory) of Colwich, Kansas ; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Emmalin Hughes, Jackson, Adrienne and Cole Kerr, Cora and Franklin Cooley, and Nevaeh, Dakota and Parker Lies; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Oval “Bud” and Charles Barker; and one sister, Betty Jenkins. Jack will be wearing his tie from his police uniform and in honor of Jack and other officers, the pallbearers will be wearing blue. The family would like to invite anyone attending the funeral services to wear “blue” in honor of all police officers. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave, Vienna with G. K. Pennington, Minister officiating. Interment will follow at the Copen Cemetery, Braxton County, WV. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to the services Tuesday at the funeral home.
