Jack Hunley, 68, passed away on February 21st in Parkersburg, WV. He was born Oct 3, 1955, in Parkersburg, to Melchi and Dora Dean Hunley.
Jack served 23 years on the Parkersburg Police Department where he was promoted to the rank of captain. Captain Hunley was awarded the Distinguished Service Award in 1984, the Merit Citation through the Parkersburg Police Department for the implementation of the Street Crimes Drug Unit in 1995, the Charles Plum Memorial Award/Officer of the Year in 2000, and the Gary Deem Life Time Achievement Award in 2011. In addition to his definitive awards, there were a multitude of letters of commendation for his general friendly demeanor and kindness with the public. Jack was also a dedicated member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila Hunley; two biological children, Teffany (Allen) Armel and Nicolas (Kristen) Hunley; three step-children, Trisha (Matt) Payne, Amanda (Jeremy) Sheppard, and Christina (Andrew) Hankins; and six grandchildren, Ellery Hunley, Colson Hunley, Sydney Sheppard, Carson Sheppard, Awen Armel, and Myles Payne.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Alan Hunley.
Visitation will be from 2:00PM to 4:00PM on Saturday, February 24th at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St. South Parkersburg.
