Ireta M. Smith McCoy, 87, a resident of the Colonial House in Parkersburg for the last four years, formerly of Washington, WV and Regency Cove, Tampa, FL passed on Monday, July 6, 2020. She was born on September 17, 1932, in Rockport, WV, a daughter of the late Jack Alexander and Minnie Amelia Dorst Smith. Ireta was a graduate from Parkersburg High School with the class of 1949 and she was an active part in planning the 49er’s class reunions. She had been employed at Gershman Galleries, Kmart, Parkersburg Art Center, and a Real Estate Agent. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #14 Parkersburg, the WV Daughters of the American Revolution and an active member of the Lubeck United Methodist Church for many years but due to illness attended First Methodist Church in Parkersburg. Ireta enjoyed painting various pictures and researching family genealogy. She lived life to its fullest and had many friends. Ireta loved to laugh and have a fun time! She would open her home up to anyone that needed help, a hot meal or a place to stay for a while. She is survived by her four children, Jack (Becky) of Williamstown, Steve (Sharon) of Mineral Wells, Kelley (Dwight) Thompson of Parkersburg and Mont (Mary) of Washington, WV; brother, Vernon (Grace) Smith of Washington, WV; sisters, Betty Skinner of Parkersburg and Nina (Norman) Allman of Mineral Wells; sister in-law, Betty Smith of Parkersburg; grandsons, Scott, Shannon (Megan), Steve (Amber), and Ryan McCoy and Seth (BreeAnna) Cunningham; granddaughters, Laura (Casey) Freed, Sheree Bryan, Denise (Kenny) Lodwick and Sadie (Cody) Mysakewec; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and all her friends at the Colonial House. In addition to her parents, Ireta was preceded in death by her husband, Clair A. McCoy; a brother, Everett Smith; sisters, Lena Thompson and Opal Gates; one niece; and one nephew. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St, south Parkersburg with Reverend Alicia Randolph Rapking and Pastor Damon Rhodes officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the services. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
