Herman Melrose

Herman “Mel” H. Melrose, 89, formerly of Belpre passed away May 2, 2016 in Clarksburg, WV. He was born January 11, 1927 in Belpre, Ohio, a son of the late Charles Melrose and Bessie Daugherty Melrose. Herman was retired from law enforcement at the Franklin County Sheriff's Department in 1990; he worked with the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 10 years, the Ohio Youth Commission for 17 years and the Penal System for the State of Washington. Herman was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in World War II; he was a member of the VFW and American Legion of Parkersburg, Fraternal Order of Police in Columbus, Ohio, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, and was a 1945 graduate of Belpre High School. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed golfing and fishing. He is survived by several nieces and nephews; and a special friend Arlaina (John) Ellison and their children Isaac, Ashlee, Ethan, and Eli. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Georgia Melrose Lane Church, Edith Hudson, Mabel Logston; and two brothers, Edwin Melrose and Woodrow Melrose. Visitation will be Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 1305 Washington Boulevard, Belpre, Ohio. Memorial donations may be made to Belpre Senior Citizens Center at 1614 Washington Blvd. Belpre, Ohio 45714.
