Herbert Tanner Jr, 82, of Parkersburg, passed away on Friday, August 24, 2018 at Camden Clark Medical Center. He was born February 28, 1936, in Burning Springs, WV, a son of the late Herbert Tanner Sr. and Cora Evans Tanner. Herbert was a 1956 graduate of Wirt County High School. He was in the U.S. Air Force for four years, and retired from G.E. Plastics after 30 years. After retirement, Herbert moved to Fort Myers, FL, where he enjoyed golfing and fishing. He was a member of the Fort Myers Baptist Church where he sang lead in the men’s quartet and tenor in the choir, and was attending the Jefferson Baptist Church in Parkersburg, after returning from Florida. Herbert was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #132 of Burning Springs, WV. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Sheppard Tanner; one daughter, Jessi (James) Blakeman of Orlando, FL; one son, Jeff (Pam Goff) Tanner of Parkersburg; two sisters, Eva Russell of Ohio and Carolyn (Deward) Cottrel of Ohio; one brother, Morris (Dixie) Tanner of Elizabeth, WV; four grandchildren, Jordan Tanner and Justin Tanner both of Rapid City, SD, Tanner Blakeman and Papaw’s little princess, Avery Blakeman both of Orlando, FL. In addition to his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by his four brothers, Jess, Ralph, Alvin and Dick Tanner; one sister, Mary Browning; and one nephew, Rick Tanner. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St, south Parkersburg, with Pastor Jerry Caplinger and Pastor Ron Hendershot officiating. Burial will follow at Burning Springs Cemetery in Wirt County, WV. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 27, 2018 at the funeral home.
