Herbert Earl Murray

Herbert Earl (Bus) Murray, 96, of Parkersburg WV passed away peacefully and entered his heavenly home on January 30, 2025. He was the last surviving child of Cecil and Georgia Murray.

He was retired from Union Carbide/Elkem where he worked for 31 years, serving on the Plant Negotiating Committee and as a shop steward. For 64 years, he was a member of the Rockport Junior Order United American Mechanics-Rockport Council 106. He was active in the West Virginia Horseshoe Pitching Association for 42 years and a member of the West Virginia Horseshoe Pitching Hall of Fame. He was a WV election voting official for Wood County. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, upholstery, camping, riding motorcycles, and trips to Alaska, the western states, and down south with his brother and sister.

Herbert had been a trustee at Grace Gospel Church in Pettyville and taught Sunday School for years, first at Grace Gospel Bible Believers Class and then at the Senior Class at Calvary Memorial Church. He faithfully attended 14th Ave. Gospel Mission Church in South Parkersburg. He loved Bluegrass Gospel singing and was a member of the Bible Believer’ Quartet for over 10 years.

He is survived by his four children, David (Connie) Murray of Swoope, Va., Carolyn (Ed) Rock of Grand Rapids, MI, Danny (Debbie) Murray of Parkersburg, and Cathy (Jeff) Morton of Friendsville, TN, and 3 generations of grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Opal West Murray, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

Viewing will be 2-4pm and 6-8pm, Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St, Parkersburg with the funeral at 11am, Monday, Feb 3, 2025 with Pastor Tim Burch officiating. Burial will follow at K of P cemetery in Elizabeth, WV.
