Herbert Gail Hayhurst died May 22, 2024 at Cedar Grove Assisted Living. He was born December 2, 1929 in Grantsville, WV to Herbert and Erless Gherke Hayhurst. He was a Christian and a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Barlow, Ohio. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling, and time with his grandchildren. He was a devoted husband and friend to many. He was a graduate of Calhoun County High School, Glenville State University, West Virginia University, and studied one summer at the University of Alaska. He served in the US Air Force for four years. He retired from the Warren Local School District after serving as a teacher and a principal. He was Past Master of Bartlett Masonic Lodge No. 293, member of Rufus Putnam, Member of Marietta Council of Royal and Select Masons of Ohio, a member of Marietta Commandery, and a charter member of the Scenic Hills Lions Club. Preceded in death by his parents and his first wife (Dorothy), and two sisters, Junell and Carolyn, one brother, Ernest. Survived by: Wife Raenetta A. Hayhurst. – Stepsons Craig (Sheri) and Alan. Grandchildren – Rick (Maggie), Hanna, Wyatt, and Waylon. Three great granddaughters – Evelyn, Phaedra, and Thalia. – One brother, Kyle and several nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Friday, May 24, 2024 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, with Pastor Eric Egger officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, where military rites will be observed. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
