Helen Smith Echard, 95 of Jacksonville, Florida, formerly of Parkersburg, passed away Friday, November 4, 2011 at her residence.She was born August 19, 1916 in Wood County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Herman and Dolly Williams Lucas. Helen had worked at Yonker's Garment Mfg., G.C. Murphy Co., O. Ames Co., the American Viscose Company and was a homemaker. She was an avid gardener, was active in the Republican National Committee and had attended the Seventh Day Advent Church. Helen loved her family and helped raise many of her brothers and sisters and also raised her granddaughter Andrea.She is survived by her son, Earl R. Smith and his wife, Peggy of Jacksonville Florida; daughter-in-law, Louise Smith of Parkersburg; granddaughter, Andrea Smith Furr of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two step-sons Roger Echard (Judith) and Steven Echard (Cheryl) both of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one step-daughter Patricia Echard Elmy of Waynesboro, Pa.; two sisters, Nellie Aumiller and Inez Lucas McQueen both of Parkersburg, W.Va.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Smith; second husband, Gilbert Echard; son, James Smith; three brothers, Woodrow, John, and Paul Lucas; and two sisters, Martha Schuttleworth and Mary Hudkins. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Rev. Dr. Stephen Melton officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Belpre, Ohio. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Thursday.
