Greg Merritt, age 60 of Vienna, W.Va. passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 at the Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born August 26, 1955 in Lynn, Massachusetts, a son of the late Barbara Joyce Merritt Britton and Joel Merritt of Massillon, Ohio. Greg was a graduate of Massillon Jackson High School and had previously worked at Western District (Westbrook). He collected angels, cookware, and Halloween memorabilia and enjoyed playing cards and scrabble. In addition to his father, Joel Merritt, he is survived by his brother, Joel “Joey” Merritt, Jr. (Laura) of Washington, W.Va.; his sisters, Cheryl Taylor (Greg) of Pomeroy, Ohio, Cyndi Merritt (Tim Barry) of Fremont, Ind., and half sister, Minnie Tanner (Richard) of Jumping Branch, W.Va.; three step brothers; one step sister; his BFF's, Jalayne Butz of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Tony Lopez and Martha Busch both of Belpre, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, and his god-children. Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Britton; his stepmother, Alice Merritt; three brothers, Gordy, Brian, and Steven Merritt; one sister, Heather Merritt; one nephew, Todd Ickes; and two nieces, Brianna Smith and Kinslie Taylor. Memorial services will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home,400 Green St., Parkersburg with Pastor David Cumpston officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial may be to the Strecker Cancer Center, Marietta Memorial Hospital, 401 Matthew Street, Marietta, Ohio 45750 in memory of Greg.
