Gordon Neff Monroe, 87, of Vienna, W.Va., left this earthly world, January 4, 2017. He was born May 9, 1929 in Vienna, the son of the late David Neff and Beulah Pearl Monroe. Gordon graduated from PHS in 1947 and proudly served his country as a Navy veteran during the Korean Conflict. He also observed the creation of Israel while serving in the Naval Reserves. He retired from E.I. DuPont, enjoyed the outdoors and good ice cream. He lived his entire life in Wood County and had many beloved friends. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Day Monroe; children, Myra Monroe and Lisa Carpenter (Doug); grandchildren, Mathew Monroe, Andrew Monroe, Jessica Gribble, Joshua Dowler, Michelle Sams(Chris), Megan Skidmore, Brian Carpenter(Katie), Benjamin Carpenter (Elizabeth), and Emily Carpenter; and many great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, David Mathew Monroe. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday January 7, 2017 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave. Vienna, with Pastor John Lands officiating. Burial will follow the service at Evergreen North Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
