Gordon R. Johnson, 82, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at WV Veterans Nursing Faciltiy. He was born March 9, 1937, a son of the late Charles Wesley and Myrtie May Bennett Johnson in Washington County, Marietta, Ohio. Gordon was retired from Kardex System Inc. of Marietta after 36 years of service. He was a member of United Steelworkers of America. He attended Marietta City School, United States Armed Forces Institute, Madison Wisconsin, also received his high school diploma from Austin, Texas and Chicago, Illinois. Gordon received a letter of appreciation and awards, plus completed several of the Military Technical Schools and extension courses at the Air University, Gunther Air Force Base in Alabama. He attended Washington State College, working on his Industrial Manufacturing Associate Degree. Gordon graduated from the Veterans Program at Davis-Elkins College given at West Virginia University of Parkersburg, WV. He served in the Ohio National Guards, Veteran U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army during Korean Conflict and Vietnam Ere. Serving overseas. Gordon received Army and Air Force medals, awards and ribbons. He was a member of several Fraternal Organizations: American Legion Post #64 of Marietta, Ohio, life member Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #6. Gordon was also a member of VFW Post 1212, Calvary Commander No. 3, all of WV. Past High Priest of the American Union Chapter #1 Royal Arch Mason of Marietta, OH and Council #78 and Marietta Shrine Club, life member Knights Templar Eye foundation, all of Marietta, OH Scottish Rite Lodge 32nd Degree, Valley Cambridge, OH, Ohio Valley Shrine Club, Nemesis Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Parkersburg, Nemesis Shriners Temple of Parkersburg, lifetime member of the Hillbilly Degree Clan No. 6, of Parkersburg, Mt. Olivet #3 Masonic Lodge, past Monarch of the Ben Bay Grotto, both of Parkersburg. Gordon is survived by his wife, Violet May Johnson; a sister, Wayneda Plaugher; three step-sons, Dave, Steve and Phil Hennen; six grandchildren; along with a host of other relatives and friends. Services will be held at 6 pm on Friday, October 4, 2019 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St, south Parkersburg with Pastor Ralph Tisdale officiating, where military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 15. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be held from 4-6 pm on Friday at the funeral home.
