Glenard “Gene” E. Britton, 77, of Parkersburg passed away Friday, March 8, 2024 at his residence. He was born June 7, 1946 in Auburn, WV., a son of the late Andrew O. Britton Sr. and Arlena A. McDonald Britton. Gene proudly served his country in the Navy, as a machinist aboard the USS Rankin. Gene worked as a Carpenter, Blacksmith and Farrier. He loved life and all it had to offer: Playing his guitar and banjo; singing bluegrass and gospel music; fishing, hunting, camping and gardening; cooking for and eating with family and friends. Gene was a Christian and loved spreading the word of God. Gene was the most loving and giving man. It didn’t matter what it was. If you needed it, and he had it, it was yours. The most important thing to him was his family and he wanted nothing more than for all his children to be happy. He is survived by two sons, Glenard Sean Britton (Lori) and Brad Britton (Melissa); a daughter, Amber Britton and two daughters from a previous marriage, one being Linda Schaertl and her children; seven grandchildren, Brooke, Brianna, Bradley, Wesley, Davion, Tiffany and Hannah; five great grandchildren, Cade, Luna, Maverick, Ellison, and Olivia; one brother, Andrew Britton Jr; one sister, Deborah Peckens; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by one son, Blaine Britton; five brothers, John, Arnold, Chuck, Scott, and Joe Britton; and three sisters, Sue Conway, Carol Simmons, and Lulabelle Britton. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024 at the Evergreen South Cemetery, Parkersburg, West Virginia. Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home is honored to serve the Britton Family.
