George Cairncross Ross, Jr., 87, of Parkersburg, WV, a retired real estate developer, passed away on April 1, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Cairncross Ross, Sr. and Evelyn Grueser Ross. His family moved to Memphis, TN in 1931 so his father could accept an engineering position with the Army Corps of Engineers. There he graduated from Christian Brothers High School where he was a division boxing champion. He joined the U.S. Marines Corps, trained in Paris Island, SC, and was accepted into the B-12 flight training program in Chicago, IL. He attended Southwestern College (now Rhodes College) in Memphis, TN; graduated in 1952 with a degree in arts and science from Memphis State College (now the University of Memphis). In the late 1980s, he moved back to Parkersburg where he continued a career in real estate development.He is survived by his dedicated and loving friend, Mary Lee Armentrout of Parkersburg; his sister, Elizabeth Ross Rucks of Memphis, TN; eight children, Robin Ross Massie, George Cairncross Ross III, Elizabeth Ross, Amy Harris, Heather Ross, John Ross, Joanne Ross Titus, Robert Marshall Ross (Tim), and nine grandchildren.Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 6, 2015 at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Parkersburg, W.Va.Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna is assisting the family.Memorial donations may be made to Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Parkersburg.
