George H. Montgomery, 80, of Walker, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He was born May 3, 1945 in Parkersburg, a son of the late George B. and Betty J. Montgomery.
George is a 1963 graduate of Warren High School and went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Marines. He was part of the USMC Amtracs from 1963-1967, and served two Mediterranean and two Caribbean tours. After his service in the military, George worked for the Parkersburg Police Department, where he retired after 24 years of service. He was the owner of Mountain State Brush Hog, and also worked for Steve Deem Construction, which was his friend.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Linda Montgomery; daughter, Pam Dischert (Scott) of Bonneau, SC.; beloved granddaughter, Giovanna “GiGi”; brother, John Montgomery of Parkersburg; sister, Ruth Holly (James) of TX; his dog, Josey Wales; and three cats, Buddy, Meatball, and Tadpole. He will also be missed by special friends, Gene Cumpston, Eric Chichester, and Dave Wilcox.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Danny “Moe” Montgomery.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 1, 2025 at Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., South Parkersburg. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens with full military rites with Sgt. Bob O’Malley Detachment 1436. Visitation will be Sunday, November 30, 2025 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial contributions to be made to the Humane Society of Parkersburg at 530 29th St. Parkersburg, WV 26101.
