George John Falcsik

May 9, 1933 — March 15, 2025

George John Falcsik, 91, of Williamstown, West Virginia, surrounded by family in his residence, peacefully went home to be with his Savior on Saturday, March 15, 2025. He was born May 9, 1933, in Swissvale, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Andrew and Rosalia (Pongracz) Falcsik.

George was the youngest of 12 children, and his parents were Hungarian immigrants; these roots were a lifelong source of pride. He helped his mom with chores, shopping, running errands, and translating English for her. He loved playing sports...sandlot baseball and football as a youngster in the hilly terrain of Swissvale (Pittsburgh), and varsity baseball and football in high school. On the area’s all-star baseball team, he got to play a game at Forbes Field—home of his beloved Pittsburgh Pirates. During his junior year, a beautiful new girl named Mary Robinson moved to town, and they immediately fell in love.

In 1953 he was drafted into the U.S. Army, and became a medic, serving at the Tripler Army Medical Hospital in Hawaii helping wounded soldiers heal physically and emotionally. He and Mary married and started their 67-year life together in the Hawaiian paradise.

After the Army, with a wife and two young children, he attended college at Michigan State University where he earned a B.A. degree in Personnel Administration. He began his personnel career with the Penn State University, first in State College, and later in Camp Hill when Penn State built the Hershey Medical Center. Eventually George, Mary, and their five children found their way to Williamstown, West Virginia, where they finally put down roots. George changed careers to sell insurance until retirement, later helping his church—the Crown of Life Evangelical Lutheran Church—start and manage a preschool; he also worked for his daughters at their quilt store. George found lifelong purpose helping others: healing wounds, finding jobs, securing their financial futures, developing young minds, or simply enjoying life.

George possessed a love of life and a childlike wonder of the world’s miracles. He loved people, learning about them, and making them laugh. He was always singing and making up silly songs. A few years ago, he found truth in the popular song “The Second Time Around” with a lovely lady named Patty. During this time, George courageously fought cancer with a remarkably positive outlook, bringing lightness and chuckles to the many healthcare providers who cared for him. Three days before his passing, he dreamed that as a 91-year-old he played football for the Williamstown High School Yellow Jackets, and after three games got called up to play for the Steelers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary R. Falcsik (2020); nine brothers, Frank, Tony, Andy, Albert, Steve, John, Ernest, Elmer, and Dennis Falcsik; two sisters, Marion Onaida and Margaret Veres; and two grandchildren, Amber Gaston and Ella Gaston. George is survived by his son, George (Donna) Falcsik, Jr., of Williamstown; four daughters, Judy (Dave) Williamson, of Williamstown; Sally (Gary) Cox, of Williamstown; Jenifer (Glen) Gaston, of Williamstown; Gretchen (Mike) Smith, of Parkersburg; grandchildren, Heather, Leah, Ben, Bethany, Jeramie, Melissa, Jeramie, Angelita, Kristen, Kristopher, Trevor, Brandon; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Kelli Cawley for her inspiration and hope, Amedisys Hospice for the special love and care they provided, and to Darrell at the Giant Eagle bakery for helping with donuts for the First United Methodist Church of Williamstown community breakfasts.
