Gene R. Turner

May 24, 1931 — November 27, 2022

Gene R. Turner, 91, of Vienna, WV, died peacefully at home with his family on November 27, 2022. He was born on May 24, 1931 in Parkersburg, WV, to the late Charles G. and Hazel Wharton Turner.
Gene graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1949. He attended Marietta College but left to join the Air Force and served honorably in the Korean War. When he returned, Gene worked with his father and brothers at Turner Oil Company. He eventually branched out with his own company, Turner Petroleum Products Inc.
Gene first met his beloved wife, Peggy, when she was five and he was ten years old. Several years later he paid quite a bit more attention to her! They married in 1954 and were happily married for 68 years. Together they shared a love of horses. Gene was especially partial to harness race horses, owning several over the years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Pepper Turner; his son, Jim Turner of Belpre, OH; his daughter, Pam Turner Chapin (Rod) of Overland Park, KS; granddaughter, Grace Chapin (Dillon Gerstenberger) of Olathe, KS; grandson, Sam Chapin of Manhattan, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard, Bob, and Jack Turner; his sisters, Mary Hunter (Chet), Evelyn Leard (Bill), and Betty Van Lear (Jack).
Gene was a loving son, husband, father, and grandad; he adored his grandchildren. He was a kind and generous man who never knew a stranger, always ready to help when someone needed it.
The family would like to thank his wonderful physicians, Dr. John Onestinghel and Dr. Bairava Kuppaswammy, as well as all of the nurses and aides from Amedisys (Jennifer, Jenny, Teresa, Mary and many others) who were so kind and took such good care of him. They were a blessing to the family.
Per Gene’s request there will be no visitation or service at this time. The family plans to have a gathering of family and friends to remember and celebrate Gene’s life at some time in the future. He was deeply loved and will be missed.
Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna is honored to serve the Turner family.
