Rev. Gene Vernon Knight, 87 of Parkersburg, WV went to be with the Lord on January 7, 2011, after passing away at his residence.He was born April 7, 1923 in West Union, WV, a son of the late Wilbert “Slim” and Bessie M. Williamson Knight. Gene was an US Army Veteran having served in WW II in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands. He was a pastor for over 55 years; retired from Union Carbide Metals in 1981; and attended Eastwood Bible Church.Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Emogene Maloney Knight; three sons, Michael V. Knight and wife Patricia of Navarre, Fla., Larry J. Knight and wife Carolyn of Parkersburg, and David W. Knight and friend Teresa Trimble of Purdy, MO; one sister, Dortha Lea Starling of Belpre, Ohio; two brothers, O.C. Knight of Pettyville, WV. and John D. Knight of Washington, WV; nine grandchildren, Rebecca Haytack, Jessica Henthorn, Tim Knight, Felicia Goff, Josh Knight, Sierra Magyar, Airelle Knight, Cassie Knight, and Kristen Knight; and twelve great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Knight; two sisters, Mary Belle Starling and Margaret Dusky; and two great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Monday, January 10, 2011 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg with Pastor Richard Smith and Pastor Dave Cumpston officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen South Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-6 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
