Frances M. Davis

Frances “Frannie” Davis, 84, of Parkersburg went home to be with the Lord on November 11, 2016. She was born January 6, 1932 in Parkersburg, daughter of the late Cecil and Edna Mae Barker Amiss. She was a graduate of Sumner High School. She worked for several years at Borg Warner and later G.E. Plastics in personnel. Frances was very active at Bethel A.M.E. Church as a member of the choir, vice president of the Missionary Board, a member of the Stewardess Board, president of the Lay Organization and served on several other church committees. She was Docent at Blennerhassett State Park, volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital, was a member of the Parkersburg Actors Guild, and she was a tutor at Sumner School. She served on the Board of Spring Grove Cemetery Association as well as Sumner School. She was a singer with the Cleft Gospelettes, a soloist and poet. She is survived by two sons, Aloysius “Scoop” Davis III, M.D. and companion, Debbi Wingrove of Easthampton, MA and Jay Davis (Wazetta) of Parkersburg; a brother, Kenneth Milton Amiss of Cleveland, OH; four grandchildren, Cecil “AJ” Davis, Jr., Natasha Moore (Gerard), Misty Davis and Crystal Cross (Brennen) all of Parkersburg; two great-grandchildren, Jacy and Destiny; and daughter-in-law, Joan Davis of Parkersburg. In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her son, Cecil Davis, Sr.; her previous husband, Aloysius Davis, Jr.; and three siblings, Virginia Tibbs, Wilbert Amiss and Rae Browne. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Parkersburg. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
